Welcome to Looply: a new way to connect with the sea
17 May 2026 · 2 min
The sea covers more than 70% of the planet's surface. We know its floor less well than the surface of Mars. It moves 80% of world trade but we still operate it with technologies from half a century ago. We fish in it, research it, monitor it and cross it, and all these activities share one problem: being at sea is expensive, slow and dangerous.
Looply is born to change that equation.
What Looply is, in one sentence
Looply is a technology startup that designs and operates autonomous marine drones and the intelligence that makes them useful. We do not build a ship to sell ships. We do not open a shipping line to compete with carriers. We build a platform that lowers the cost, complexity and risk of being at sea, and we make it available to those who already work with it.
That platform enables very different applications: short-distance maritime transport, environmental monitoring, oceanographic science, support for sustainable fishing, coastal surveillance and emergency response. The technology is horizontal. The applications are vertical.
Why now
Four technology curves have converged at once. Marine AI navigation, electric propulsion for short distances, low-cost industrial-quality sensors and real-time oceanographic data integration. Five years ago, any one of them was a research project. Today all four are deployable capabilities.
The result is that, for the first time, it is possible to build a fleet of marine vehicles designed from scratch to work autonomously or under remote supervision, with electric or hybrid propulsion, and with a software layer that turns every nautical mile into actionable data.
How this applies, today
The first market where the pieces fit is short-distance maritime logistics for fractioned cargo — a segment that today moves enormous volume by road because the sea was never designed to serve it. That is where our pilots are in preparation and where business-case maturity is highest.
From the same platform, the following verticals open naturally:
- Oceanographic science. Sampling missions, bathymetry and continuous monitoring at a fraction of current cost.
- Environmental sustainability. Spill detection, water quality monitoring, tracking of species, microplastics and port emissions.
- Fishing. Fleet support with real-time data, illegal fishing detection, protection of reserved zones.
- Maritime security. Coastal surveillance, assisted search and rescue, emergency response in hard-to-reach areas.
Each of these verticals has its own client, its own regulation and its own pace of adoption. What they share is the same underlying technology.
What comes next
This website is Looply's first public window. We will share here what we learn, the operational data from our pilots, the technical decisions we are making and, above all, the conversations with the people and organisations that already work with the sea and want to do so differently.
If you work in logistics, marine research, fishing, port administration, conservation or coastal security, we are not interested in telling you a story. We are interested in listening to yours.
Let's talk. We are opening conversations with operators, scientists, administrations and companies that want a new way to operate at sea. Contact us here and we will be in touch within 48 hours.
